Canadian Chances in New York

Canadians have enjoyed remarkable success at the US Open in the last couple of years. Andreescu winning in 2019, Fernandez making the final last year.

This year, what are the chances of the “core four” of Canadian tennis talent right now?

No Canadian Surprises in 2022

Bianca Andreescu, Leylah Fernandez, Felix Auger-Aliassime, and Denis Shapovalov are all well known dangers at the top level of tennis. There will be no surprise if any of them do damage to the draw at this year’s US Open as there has been in the past.

The new challenge for this Canadian crop is dealing with the pressures of expectation, and that’s something they’ve all battled in 2022.

The Canadians have moved past their ‘newcomer’ status on tour, and as with many other players they must find their identity as players that opponents plan for and look to get ‘good wins’ over.

It comes with the territory of being a danger player on tour.

Who Do Canadians Play In US Open Round 1?

Which Canadian Has The Best Chance in New York?

On the most recent North of the Net show on The Slice, co-hosts Brendan, Crina, and Stephen debated the “Power Rankings” of Canadians heading into the US Open.

All three had Felix as the #1, but there was disagreement after that:

No matter what happens in New York for the Canadian core four, it’s sure to be an exciting start to the tournament as many Canadians migrate south to cheer on our stars.
