Canada’s Galarneau, Diallo Stun Italy In Davis Cup

Bologna, Italy

Canada defeated Italy in the first Group Stage tie of the 2023 Davis Cup Finals Group Stages.

That’s not the upset. Canada defeated Italy last year as well.

The real surprise is that Alexis Galarneau and Gabriel Diallo have defeated two Top 50 opponents both named Lorenzo.

In the first match, Alexis Galarneau (world #200) defeated Lorenzo Sonego (#38) 7-6 (8), 6-4.

Gabriel Diallo (#158) followed up that stellar performance with his own, defeating Lorenzo Musetti (#18) 7-5, 6-4 in another tight match.

Get To Know Galarneau and Diallo

Both Alexis Galarneau and Gabriel Diallo were a part of Canada’s winning team at the 2022 Davis Cup. They were (literally) speechless after cheering the team to victory, led by Felix Auger-Aliassime, Denis Shapovalov, and Vasek Pospisil.

Both Diallo and Galarneau have won ATP Challenger Titles, and are climbing their way up the ATP rankings.

The Slice caught up with them for a joint interview last summer where we talked about their involvement in the Davis Cup and their progression as pros.
